For more than 35 years, Nancy's area of expertise has been video production. As a TV news reporter, producer, editor and writer, Nancy has worked for some of the top news organizations in the country.  

Nancy now enters a new media arena, producing and reporting for NPR/PBS at Arizona Public Media as the Senior Reporter for Immigration and Border Issues.

Xenophobia - What is It and How to Combat It

Xenophobia Blues

 Heighten anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric has caused many to retreat from discussing any of these hot button topics with friends and family. 
 
However, for members of Tucson’s Faith Based community it has meant a closing of the ranks. And for one Tucson songwriter, it has provided inspiration.  He wrote a song called Xenophobia Blues which provides the back drop for a dialogue about tolerance and compassion.  
 
Nancy Montoya has more on Xenophobia – what it means and how religious leaders say our community should deal with it.

BORDER DRUG STRIKE FORCE

 

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is pushing to spend tens of millions of state taxpayer money on a Border Drug Strike Force.  Only problem is, Arizona is already cash strapped - where will this money come from.  Also, 3 out of the four Border County sheriffs say they have been left out of the loop.


A MEXICAN MOTHER'S CURSE
​In the American Southwest and throughout Mexico no Halloween would be complete without the story of La Llorona, the Weeping Woman.  While there are many versions of this Mexican folklore story. Nancy Montoya has one version told to children in the Arizona mining communities of Clifton and Morenci.
